A free Loom alternative that keeps it simple
Loom is a good product. It is also a big one now: owned by Atlassian, priced for teams, and built around cloud storage. Vidsay is the opposite bet — a small, free recorder that lives in your browser and keeps your videos on your own device.
Vidsay vs Loom, honestly
- Price: Loom's free plan caps you at 25 videos and 5-minute recordings; paid plans start at $15–$18 per user per month, and AI features cost $20–$24. Vidsay's free plan has the same 25-video / 5-minute shape, and its planned Pro is $12 per user per month.
- Install: Loom needs its desktop app or browser extension for the full experience. Vidsay needs nothing — it records in a browser tab.
- Storage: Loom stores your videos in the cloud, with share links, comments and viewer analytics. Vidsay has no cloud storage in this version: videos download to your device as .webm files, and the library lives in your browser.
- Accounts: Loom needs a workspace and a login. Vidsay needs neither.
- AI features: Loom has transcripts, summaries and chapters on paid plans. Vidsay's AI summaries and transcripts are planned, not built — this page will not pretend otherwise.
When Loom is the right choice
If your team shares hundreds of videos, needs comments, viewer analytics and a searchable library, Loom is the better tool — that is what its $50M of annual revenue before the $975M Atlassian acquisition was built on. Vidsay does not try to replace that. It is for the other case: one person, one message, one recording, sent and done.
When Vidsay is the right choice
- You record a few videos a week, not dozens a day.
- You would rather keep recordings on your own device than on someone else's servers.
- You don't want another account, another app, or another subscription.
- You want the cheapest possible way to say "watch this, it takes two minutes."
Try it before you decide
There is nothing to install and nothing to pay. Open the recorder, make one video, and see if the lightweight way fits how you actually work.

Vidsay is an unofficial rebuild for personal use — not affiliated with Loom or Atlassian. Loom's figures on this page (about $50M ARR at acquisition, $975M acquisition by Atlassian in October 2023, 25M users) are Loom's, not Vidsay's.
